A Review of "Inspired"
by Becca Ramspott, art writer & critic

"Rather than limiting herself to furnishings that simply invite customary compliments in passing, Cumberland artist Meg Romero creates works that inhabit a space "Inspired" posterwith a lively, physical presence, pieces someone can interact with, rather than absentmindedly sit on or enjoy from afar. Composed of bright, beautifully blended colors, unexpected materials and lovingly chosen fabrics, Romero's cabinets and upholstered benches are best viewed in the same manner as a kaleidoscope- walking around them and discovering new ways of looking at them is part of the fun. These friendly, fantastical furnishings carry on conversations- not just start them."

"Romero draws from several sources of inspiration in her furniture pieces, which possess a unique, functional levity one admirer once described as 'Queen Elizabeth meets 'Beetlejuice''. She is just as likely to spend hours looking through furniture books featuring works by the cabinetmakers in the cultural centers of Britain, China and Spain in the 1600s as she is to look out the window and admire the architecture on Cumberland's Baltimore Street. As a result, many of her works infuse designs and styles from centuries past with a colorful, contemporary sensibility."

Maryland Life "An Edison Bulb lights when you sit, thus telling the world that you are Deep. In. Thought." A lovely commentary by Dan Patrell, president of Great State Publishing, publishers of Maryland Life Magazine.

I'm not a real firm believer in 'luck', per se, but for goodness sakes, when the editor at the Washington Post selects your photograph to run in the Sunday HOME section, it makes me want to believe! This advertised the ACC Show in Baltimore, which was a mistake: I was actually exhibiting at the Buyers Market in Philadelphia. Washington Post

Boston Globe The erstwhile "Crafts at the Castle Show" held in the old Armory was a top-ten in the country. I was very honored to have my work included in their marketing efforts, and was knocked over by this: the cover of the Calendar section of the Boston Globe.

"Decidedly Fanciful" and "an arty, free-spirited design" were the descriptors used in this publication by Reed Business Information for the Highpoint Furniture Market. The press was very nice, but I can assure you, it was a very long ten days.

After winning my first Niche Award, the Rosen Group honored me with a full-page profile. "I actually started making upholstered pieces to justify my need for fabric shopping" I said, and then I lamented the fact that I could not find an upholstery mentor.

I still love the fabric shopping, and I have since found myself some very fine mentor/consultants!

Having had the Philadelphia Inquirer delivered to the house as a kid, it was quite a thrill to see my work here! This was advertising a show at the Langman Gallery in Willow Grove Park.
